India’s ecommerce market is booming — and Cleverbridge is helping businesses meet buyers where they pay, boosting trust and conversion rates.
For global businesses, India represents one of the fastest-growing digital economies in the world. With a population of over 1.4 billion and rapid adoption of online services, the market is brimming with opportunity.
To succeed in India, businesses must go beyond simply having a presence. They must meet customers where they are, by offering payment methods they trust and use every day.
That’s why Cleverbridge is introducing Net Banking as a new payment method for the Indian market. Through our integration with a local payment service provider (PSP), we’re expanding our capabilities and enabling clients to deliver seamless, secure, and locally relevant payment experiences.
Net Banking is more than just one of India’s preferred online payment options, it’s a strategic rail powering digital commerce, especially for businesses managing subscriptions, large transactions, and long-term, low-friction billing.
Indian consumers and businesses rely heavily on their bank accounts for digital transactions. Net Banking, also known as Internet Banking, allows customers to pay directly from their accounts without needing a card. It’s not only convenient, but also one of the most trusted payment methods for millions of Indian users — especially the 59% of Indian buyers that purchase software online for work at least once a week.
While digital payments in India span a wide range of methods, Net Banking stands apart for the sheer value it moves. According to Worldline’s India Digital Payments Report 2H 2024, India recorded around 88 billion digital payment transactions between July and December 2024, valued at approximately ₹1,231 trillion ($13.95B). Within this landscape, Net Banking accounted for 2.39 billion transactions worth ₹597 trillion ($6.76T), with an average order size of ₹249,736 ($2,828).
Although Net Banking represents a smaller share of total transaction volumes, it drives a disproportionately large share of total revenue, underscoring its importance in high-value ecommerce, recurring payments, and B2B flows.
This highlights how central Net Banking has become to India’s financial infrastructure, one that continues to evolve with NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) initiatives aimed at making banking rails more seamless, standardized, and interoperable. Its proven reliability makes it the payment method of choice for customers who prefer direct bank connections over cards or wallets.
At Cleverbridge, we’ve designed our Net Banking integration to help global businesses capture revenue in India: combining deep local expertise, frictionless transaction routing, and enterprise-grade reliability.
By integrating directly through a local PSP, every transaction is optimized for performance, scalability, and seamless customer experience, ensuring that businesses can operate with the same confidence locally as they do globally.
Everywhere Net Banking stands out:
For global businesses, these strengths translate directly into better reach, reduced friction, and higher conversion.
Cleverbridge’s Net Banking solution is built for flexibility and scale, supporting both one-time and recurring transactions.
For one-time payments, customers can log in through their bank and complete transactions instantly and securely. We currently support 85+ banks across India, ensuring broad coverage and customer choice.
For subscriptions, our eNACH flow enables long-term mandates (valid for up to 30 years) that automatically authorize recurring charges. Clients can configure buffer percentages to account for pricing or currency changes without recreating mandates. At present, recurring payments via eNACH are supported through 55 banks nationwide.
Net Banking supports high transaction thresholds, with limits up to ₹10 million ($113,328) per mandate and ₹2.5 million ($28,330) per transaction.
Vs. Cards: Net Banking eliminates issues like card expiry, limited credit lines, and international routing dependencies. For recurring payments, eMandates offer unmatched longevity and reliability.
Vs. Wallets/UPI: While UPI and wallets are popular for smaller, everyday purchases, Net Banking supports significantly higher transaction limits, making it ideal for subscriptions, enterprise, and B2B use cases.
In short, Net Banking fills a critical gap, combining trust, scale, and dependability that other payment methods can’t fully match.
At Cleverbridge, our goal is to help clients succeed globally by offering payment experiences that resonate locally. By adding Net Banking to our payment portfolio, we’re not only making it easier for businesses to capture revenue in India, we’re helping them build long-term customer relationships in a market where bank-account–based payments are rapidly expanding.
For our clients, Net Banking represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen your footprint in India, improve payment success, reduce churn, and unlock long-term growth.
This is just the beginning. We’re actively working to bring Unified Payments Interface (UPI) support to our platform in the coming months, further expanding our local payment capabilities in India. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue strengthening our footprint across India and the broader Global South.
